Award-winning Derbyshire Garden Opens In Support Of Local Air Ambulance

Several smaller gardens combine to create a tranquil setting for the 13th century Hall. Of particular interest are the traditional cottage borders set against striking stone features, the Elizabethan Knott garden, restored orchard, 16th century Dovecote and the 400-year-old tithe barn. The resident ducks and hens are popular with younger visitors.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) based at East Midlands Airport is a new air ambulance service, which took over from County Air Ambulance on 1 April 2008.

This service has moved the emphasis away from simply transporting casualties to hospital, to getting senior doctors and consultants to the scene of incidents as quickly as possible. DLRAA conveys its patients to specialist hospitals that can help specific injuries, not just the nearest hospital.

“The DLRAA provides life saving treatment and medication on site and en-route to hospital. This is an invaluable service in cases where land ambulances are unable to access the scene or where transfer by land ambulance would be too slow or create more injury to the patient.

The DLRAA is a registered charity, receiving no Government or National Lottery Funding and as such relies totally on public donations, fundraising activities and sponsorship. The average cost per mission is around £1000 and the annual basic running cost of the service is over £1.5 million. DLRAA's primary response area is the 2,100 square miles of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. It will serve in excess of 1.4 million people.”

There will be something for everyone on Sunday – a garden quiz for the children, gardening advice and tips, jazz quartet and home made refreshments. The garden opens from 11.00 am – 5.00 pm. Adult admission costs £2.50, Children free.

It is your local air ambulance, please support it.
